(Los Angeles, June 18, 2003) – On June 30, 2003, in celebration of National Blonde Day and in conjunction with the highly anticipated release of MGM Pictures' Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, MGM and Vidal Sassoon have joined forces to show that blondes really do have more fun. Vidal Sassoon salons in 10 cities across the country will open their doors to the public to give free "Flash of Blonde" hair color treatments. In keeping with "Makeover America" (this year's National Blonde Day theme), Sephora will also be in the salons sponsoring makeovers with stila cosmetics' Legally Blonde 2-inspired color palettes, and O.P.I. will be on hand to offer manicures with their LB2-inspired polishes. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde opens in theaters on July 2, 2003.

"We're thrilled to be working with Vidal Sassoon again to celebrate National Blonde Day," says Eric Kops, the naturally dark-haired but blonde-at-heart senior vice president of publicity at MGM. "We worked with them to promote the first film and it was a huge success. With their help, this National Blonde Day celebration will be even bigger and better than before."

"We are pleased to introduce 'Flash of Blonde' in celebration of National Blonde Day. 'Flash of Blonde' is a personalized hair color process that reveals an individual's blondeness at heart," says Andrea Jean, the very blonde marketing manager for Vidal Sassoon salons.

On June 30, Vidal Sassoon salons in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Scottsdale, Toronto, and McLean, VA, will be available to help people make "blonde transformations." Interested blondes-to-be should contact the Vidal Sassoon in their area to get more information and make an appointment.

Reese Witherspoon is back as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde. Directed by Charles Herman-Wurmfeld, the film also stars Sally Field, Regina King, Jennifer Coolidge, and Bruce McGill, with Bob Newhart and Luke Wilson. Produced by Marc Platt and David Nicksay, the screenplay is by Kate Kondell from a story by Eve Ahlert & Dennis Drake and Kate Kondell, based on the characters created by Amanda Brown.

MGM and VIDAL SASSOON TO TURN PEOPLE LEGALLY BLONDE
SALONS TO OFFER FREE "FLASH OF BLONDE"
IN HONOR OF NATIONAL BLONDE DAY

For Immediate Release
(Los Angeles, May 19, 2003) – In a press conference on the steps of their national headquarters, the Los Angeles chapter of the Blonde Legal Defense Club has announced that this year's National Blonde Day celebration will take place on June 30, 2003. It was also revealed that the theme for this year's holiday will be "Makeover America," an inspirational call for blondes and blondes-at-heart to celebrate their individuality and push for positive change in the United States and around the world.

"In a civilization with lash-separating mascara and cosmetic treatments that eliminate frown lines and wrinkles, it's unthinkable that appearance-based discrimination still exists," said BLDC chapter president Tiffany Pinkins. "We've heard the blonde jokes, we've seen the half-hidden, whispered exchanges behind our backs at hair salons or by the pool. It's time for it to stop."

Previous National Blonde Day celebrations were incredibly successful, with festivals, demonstrations, and seminars held in cities across the U.S. Now with the "Makeover America" theme, the BLDC hopes it can inspire people to expand their efforts and push for change against injustice on local, national, and global levels. "Personal change is easy. You can revamp your wardrobe, go on an all-salmon diet, or just buy a new lip gloss," says Pinkins. "But we want everyone to understand that by taking a stand and letting our voices be heard, we can make our world a better place. Even one person can make a big difference."

The Blonde Legal Defense Club was created in 2001 as a grassroots effort in response to prejudice against blonde lawyers, who felt they weren't being taken seriously by their peers. The club has since become one of the most successful advocacy groups in the country – and not just for lawyers and women. "I want my kids to know it's never okay to judge a book by its cover," says Milton Seltzer, a Michigan dentist and brunette who went blonde in a gesture of solidarity with his wife, Paula. Judy Johnson, an award-winning Sacramento yoga instructor, isn't a natural blonde, but she considers herself blonde-at-heart. "Because I teach yoga, people assume I also read chakras and don't drink anything but wheat grass and fruit smoothies," she says. "I completely understand where the Blonde Legal Defense Club is coming from."
